How We Designed OvaWise's Mobile App: 100+ Screens From Zero

OvaWise needed a women's health monitoring app designed from scratch. How we took a complex, sensitive product from abstract concept to 100+ shipped screens.

Designing a mobile app from scratch means turning an idea with no existing screens, patterns, or conventions into a complete, coherent product. For OvaWise, a continuous pelvic health monitoring platform for women navigating PCOS, endometriosis, and perimenopause, that meant going from abstract concept to more than 100 shipped screens. This is what that engagement looked like and what it teaches about 0-to-1 product design.

The starting point: a vision, not a screen

OvaWise came to us the way most 0-to-1 founders do: with deep domain expertise, a clear sense of the problem, and no interface. That is a genuinely different design problem from a redesign. There is nothing to react to, so every convention has to be chosen: the navigation model, the data vocabulary, the tone of every empty state.

Two constraints shaped everything. First, the domain is sensitive. A health product for conditions like PCOS and endometriosis is used by people who are often anxious, often dismissed, and always deserving of an interface that takes them seriously. Second, the product is data-continuous: monitoring means charts, trends, and readings that could easily become clinical and cold, or worse, alarming, if the design treated data as the point instead of the person.

How we approached it

Flows before screens. With no existing product, the first deliverables were not screens at all; they were the journeys. What does the first day feel like? What does week six look like, when checking in has become routine? Mapping those before drawing interfaces is how 100+ screens end up feeling like one product instead of one hundred decisions.

A system from day one. At this scale, consistency is not a virtue, it is a survival requirement. Tokens, type scale, and a component library came before the screen count climbed, for the same reason they come first in every engagement we run: decisions made once propagate everywhere. Our guide to when a design system is worth building covers the reasoning; OvaWise is what it looks like applied to mobile at scale.

Making health data feel calm. The hardest design work was tonal. Readings and trends needed to inform without alarming: hierarchy that leads with what things mean rather than raw numbers, language that explains instead of judges, and states designed for the days when the data is not what the user hoped. This is the same discipline we describe in healthcare product design, applied to a consumer mobile context.

Iteration as the process, not a phase. Over 100 screens were shipped through continuous collaboration: design, feedback, refinement, repeat.

What the client said

We keep outcomes on this site to what we can verify, so here is OvaWise's founder, Estefania Alexandre, in her own words:

"Anant quickly understood our product vision and translated complex ideas into a clean, intuitive, and thoughtful user experience. He has a rare ability to take abstract concepts and turn them into designs that feel both elegant and highly functional. Throughout the process, he was responsive, collaborative, and incredibly detail-oriented. He consistently incorporated feedback quickly and helped us refine the product in ways that made the overall experience significantly stronger."

"Abstract concepts into designs that feel both elegant and highly functional" is the entire job description of 0-to-1 design, and it is the best one-line summary of the work we have ever gotten from a client.

What this engagement says about 0-to-1 work

Three lessons transfer to any founder starting from zero. First, the flows-before-screens order is what keeps a large surface coherent; screen-first design at this scale always fragments. Second, sensitive domains reward design maturity disproportionately: users forgive a rough edge in a to-do app and never in a health product. Third, the system pays for itself before launch: by the second half of the engagement, new screens assembled from existing components in a fraction of the early pace.

If you are earlier than OvaWise was, our guides on what to design first for a startup and designing your MVP without over-engineering it are the right starting points.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to design a mobile app from scratch?+
It means the engagement starts before any interface exists: defining user journeys, choosing the navigation model, building the design system, and then designing every screen from that foundation. For OvaWise this took the product from abstract concept to more than 100 shipped screens with one coherent visual and interaction language.
How do you design for sensitive domains like women's health?+
Tone is treated as a design material. Hierarchy leads with what data means rather than raw numbers, language explains without judging, and empty or difficult states get the same care as dashboards. The goal is an interface that informs without alarming and takes its users seriously.
How long does a 100-plus screen mobile app take to design?+
It is a phased engagement rather than a fixed sprint: foundation and core flows first, then screen production accelerates as the component library matures. On our subscription model that runs as continuous weekly delivery; by the later phases, new screens assemble from existing components far faster than the early ones.
Do you design both the MVP and the full product?+
Yes. Some founders come to us for a focused MVP and grow into the full product over time; others, like OvaWise, need the full surface designed as one system. Both run on the same foundation-first approach, and the intro call is where we scope which one your stage actually needs.
