Does your app look vibe-coded?

Paste your website and we'll check it for the five design markers that separate AI-built apps from funded startups in our study of 832 websites, with a specific fix for each one you have.

Free, no sign-up. We read your homepage's code once and don't store your address or the result.

What we check

Five markers of the default AI look

Each marker was measured on 409 apps built with Lovable and 423 Y Combinator startups from the 2025 and 2026 batches. No single one makes a product look generic; the combination does.

  • Inter or the default font

    59% of AI-built apps · 25% of YC startups

Type is the first thing a visitor reads, and most AI-built apps share one of two options.

  • shadcn/ui's default 0.5rem radius

    34% of AI-built apps · 10% of YC startups

One number in the theme file sets the feel of every card, button and input.

  • Gradient text

    51% of AI-built apps · 38% of YC startups

The clipped-gradient headline has become the signature of AI-generated landing pages.

  • Purple, violet or indigo gradients

    39% of AI-built apps · 15% of YC startups

Decorative gradients are the clearest visual tell in our data.

  • Default or purple brand colour

    29% of AI-built apps · 6% of YC startups

A primary colour left at the default, or set to the purple most tools reach for.

How it works

The same method as the study

The checker reads your homepage's HTML and stylesheets once, the same way the study did, and finds your main typeface, your theme tokens, your corner radius, your primary colour and your gradient usage in the code. It does not take screenshots and it does not store your address or your result.

It measures code, not appearance, so treat the score as a prompt rather than a verdict: a site can use Inter and still look distinctive. The full method, the charts and the limitations are in the study, and the fixes are covered in depth in how to redesign a vibe-coded product without a rewrite.

Questions

About the checker

How does the vibe-coded checker work?+
It reads your homepage's HTML and stylesheets once and looks for five design markers that are far more common in AI-built apps than in funded startups: Inter or the default font, shadcn/ui's default 0.5rem corner radius, gradient text, purple-family gradients, and a primary colour left at the default or set to purple. The markers and benchmarks come from our study of 832 websites.
What score is normal?+
In our study, 40% of apps built with Lovable carried three or more of the five markers, against 8% of funded Y Combinator startups. A score of 0 or 1 means your design mostly reflects your own choices; 3 or more means the defaults are showing.
Does a high score mean my product is bad?+
No. It means your product looks like many others built with the same tools, which makes it harder for visitors to remember you and easier to dismiss as a side project. The fixes are small: a typeface, a few theme tokens, fewer gradients.
Do you store the URL I check?+
No. The check runs once, the result is shown to you, and neither the address nor the result is stored. We only record that a check happened and its score, with no link to your site.
Why can't the checker read my site?+
Some sites block automated requests, load all of their styling with JavaScript, or sit behind a login. The checker reads public homepages only. If yours can't be read, the five markers on this page are easy to check by hand.
