Pitch Deck Design Examples for Startups

A pitch deck is not a design project — it's a communication project. The design's job is to make the story clear, the data credible, and the next question obvious. Decks that close rounds do all three.

The average VC partner reviews 200–300 decks per month (First Round Capital, 2023). Most are dismissed in under two minutes — not because the business is bad, but because the deck doesn't pass the clarity test fast enough. A pitch deck is a product in its own right: it has a user (the investor), a job to be done (move them from skeptical to interested to committed), and a specific context (fast review, often on a phone or tablet). The design decisions — hierarchy, white space, data visualisation, slide count — are all in service of that communication goal. A badly designed deck makes a good idea look uncertain. A well-designed deck makes a solid idea look like a category-defining opportunity.

Got questions?

Frequently asked questions.

What makes a pitch deck design effective beyond looking good?+
Three things: hierarchy (the most important information is visually dominant on every slide), consistency (the design doesn't distract from the story), and clarity (data is presented in the simplest chart that answers the question). Decks fail visually when designers prioritise novelty over communication — custom fonts, dark backgrounds, and overbuilt data visualisations that require explaining.
How many slides should a pitch deck have?+
DocSend's analysis of 200+ successful fundraising decks shows the average is 19 slides. For seed stage, 12–15 slides is usually right. For Series A, 15–20. More important than count is what each slide does: problem, solution, market, product, traction, team, financials, ask. Every slide that doesn't do one of those jobs is a slide that dilutes investor focus.
Should I design my pitch deck in PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Figma?+
We design in Figma for the highest visual quality, then export to PDF for investor review and to Google Slides for live presentation (where animation and speaker notes matter). PowerPoint is available on request. The final deliverable is whatever format your fundraising process requires — we don't lock you into a tool.
How do you handle data visualisation in pitch decks?+
We use the simplest chart that answers the question. Market size? Total addressable market as a number, not a chart. Revenue growth? Bar chart, not a table. Unit economics? One clear number per metric, not a spreadsheet. The rule: if a journalist could reproduce the chart in a headline, it's clear enough. If they'd need three sentences, it isn't.
How quickly can you design a pitch deck?+
Most pitch decks are designed and ready for revision within 5–7 business days from content submission. Final delivery (post-revision) is 1–2 days after feedback. Rush turnarounds for imminent closes are available. Pitch deck design starts at $2,000 as a standalone project, or is included in our subscription at $2,417/mo.
