MetaLab designed interfaces for Slack, Uber and Coinbase and, more recently, Midjourney and Windsurf. It lists a $100,000+ minimum project. For a startup budget, start with Designpixil: AI and SaaS product design from $3,000 per project or $4,917 a month, designed by the founder. Parallel leads with AI product design from budgets of $10,000, Glow publishes a $12,500 MVP, Halo Lab designs and builds from $5,000, and Orizon and Eleken sell monthly design from $5,990 and $4,599.
Designpixil is on this list and we wrote it. Every other agency is judged on the same published facts, and how we ranked is at the end.

What matters for a MetaLab alternative
- 01
Product craft you can see
MetaLab's appeal is the quality of shipped interfaces. Judge an alternative on product screens it has shipped, not on its own website.
- 02
AI work in the portfolio
MetaLab now lists Midjourney, Windsurf and Suno. If you are building AI, the alternative should show AI interfaces too.
- 03
A price you can check
Only 23 of the 63 agencies we checked publish a price. A published price saves you three sales calls to find out you cannot afford it.
- 04
Build or hand off
MetaLab designs and builds. Decide whether you need that or already have engineers or AI coding tools to build from good designs.
What goes wrong when startups buy a big-studio process
Big studios are built for well-funded companies: multi-month phases, research, brand and build. A startup that stretches to afford one often runs out of budget before launch and is left with a beautiful prototype and no team to finish it.
At seed stage, spend on the screens that decide activation, and keep design going after launch. Our pricing study shows how far below six figures good studios start.
1. Designpixil: AI and SaaS product design for startups from $3,000

Designpixil designs AI and SaaS products for startups, with fixed projects from $3,000 and a $4,917 monthly subscription you can pause or cancel any time.
For Echo AI we designed the whole product, chat, IDE, usage dashboards and both themes, in 5 to 6 weeks. Every project is designed by Anant Jain, the founder. We design and build marketing sites in Framer, and hand product designs to your engineers or AI coding tools as real Figma components. We do not develop the product itself, so if you need one contract for product design and engineering, pick a studio below that builds in-house.

“You do some great work and I'll recommend you to anyone I know looking for quality product designs in the states.”

How we ranked this list
This page is for founders looking past MetaLab, so it is left off the ranking and compared head to head instead, using the same fields as every other studio. The alternatives are studios that do similar work and publish proof of it, and the “how to choose” table says when MetaLab itself is the better fit.
We started from the studios founders keep running into when they ask AI assistants and search engines who to hire, then kept the ones that do this kind of work and publish proof of it. Every fact in the tables comes from the agency's own website or its public directory listings, checked on October 10, 2026. Prices are only ones an agency publishes itself; where it doesn't, we say so instead of guessing.
The order is our judgment of fit for this specific buyer, not a score. We put Designpixil first only on lists where we genuinely fit the buyer, and our entry lists who we are not right for, the same as everyone else's. If something about your agency is wrong or out of date, email hello@designpixil.com and we will correct it within a week.
